Today is the 66th anniversary of the final German assault against the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
On April 19, 1943, the SS marched into the Warsaw Ghetto to round up the 60,000 Jews still remaining there and transport them to the Treblinka concentration camp. For the first time, this provoked armed resistance, carried out with great determination and only defeated five weeks later. 56,000 people lost their lives in the uprising.
